Coming soon

Nearby file sharing, with a person on the other end

You have finished a meeting and the person beside you needs the files. ZipPigeon Nearby is an upcoming way to find participating devices, confirm who you are connecting to, and offer a file package the receiver can accept. Familiar devices can remember their pairing; each transfer still needs a yes.

Nearby is coming soon to the ZipPigeon iOS app. A public release date has not been announced. Browser Nearby will return after the app is available in stores.

Coming to compatible ZipPigeon iOS apps

The apps are coming soon. Nearby is currently available only in compatible native test builds, and we have not announced a public release date. Operational Nearby controls are hidden in ordinary browsers during prelaunch. Browser workspace access to Nearby is planned for after app-store availability; reading this page does not enable device discovery.

Keep an in-person handoff in the conversation

A consultant can offer the agreed deliverables after a review. A client can receive the right document package before leaving an appointment. Colleagues can exchange the files they have just discussed without opening a shared folder to everyone in the room. Nearby is designed for that specific handoff, with the sender and receiver making the choice together.

Find people who have chosen to be visible

Both people need a ZipPigeon account, an unlocked workspace, and a compatible iOS app. Each person turns on sharing and keeps the app open. The available-device list shows participating devices. On a first connection, check the displayed account and device, compare the complete pairing code, and confirm on both phones.

Remember the connection, ask about the files

A saved pairing belongs to the particular devices and accounts that approved it. Returning with those same devices can skip another code comparison while the pairing remains valid. The sender still chooses a package and sends an offer, and the receiver still accepts or declines every offer before file access is released. A remembered device does not have permission to deliver whatever it wants.

Encrypted delivery still needs an internet connection

Nearby helps people find each other and approve a handoff. File contents use ZipPigeon’s encrypted upload and delivery service, so both participants need internet access. Preparing a package is separate from offering it, and receiving access is separate from opening or downloading the files. Local discovery does not make this an offline transfer service.

Stay in control after the meeting

Turn sharing off when you are finished. Forget a pairing when a connection should no longer be remembered, and remove devices you no longer use. File access keeps its expiry, download limits, and revocation rules. Those controls limit service access; they cannot remove a copy somebody already downloaded. Delivered file links and their keys also need care because they can be passed on.

Send files through the website today

You do not need to wait for Nearby to use ZipPigeon’s existing encrypted file delivery. Prepare a transfer in the website and choose an account recipient or a secure link suited to the handoff. Confirm the recipient and agree on an access window. The guides below explain that workflow and what Nearby will add when the apps become available.

Frequently asked questions

Is ZipPigeon Nearby publicly available?

Nearby is coming soon in compatible ZipPigeon iOS apps. Compatible native test builds can exercise it now. No public release date has been announced, and ordinary browsers do not show the operational Nearby interface during prelaunch.

Do both people need a ZipPigeon account?

Yes. Both participants must sign in, unlock their workspace, and turn on sharing in a compatible app. A device being nearby does not grant access to an account or its files.

Will a paired device receive future files automatically?

No. A valid saved pairing can skip the initial code comparison on a later connection. The receiver must still approve each incoming file offer before access is released.

Does Nearby work without internet or require precise distance guidance?

Internet access is required because files use ZipPigeon’s encrypted delivery service. Precise distance and direction guidance is optional on supported phones; it is not required for a Nearby handoff.

Need to share a file today?

Account sharing and secure links are available now. Nearby is coming soon for compatible apps, with browser access planned after the store launch.
